Like many of his generation, he sees traditional business attire as a form of cover-up. In his workplace, he says, "we're not trying to hide anything with our clothes."
It's interesting you say this and your companies twitter is also your personal twitter. Why not have two? One as your personal and one as your business? People want to connect to your brand and service not with you. Why not give them that option to do so?
In my opinion, they are so similar (my personal life and business life) that it would be very repetitive to have two different accounts. I also think that people want to see the people behind the company, gives them more insight into culture, organization and what makes that company tick.
I agree that transparency is very important. But the personal connection cannot be just between the CEO / founder and the users... that same level of passion and transparency needs to trickle down to the rest of the team.
It should start with the CEO but you need an equally passionate / transparent team to back you up. The question that needs to be asked is not "If Derek Johnson disappears for a month, will he be missed?" but rather "If Derek Johnson disappears for a month will there be any noticeable decrease in transparency at Tatango?"
If the answer to the second question is "NO" then you have a great company.
And to answer my own question... the answer is "NO". You and your team at Tatango have done a great job of keeping things real.
with many of these huge conglomerates; it wouldn't pay to have the company associated with one person. Look at Madoff. The company would go right down the tubes with him. lol.
There is no separation between your personal life and your business life anymore in my opinion. Everyone that does business with you, should be able to connect with you on a personal level. I say complete transparency is key!
